Paul H. Ryan, Sr., a resident of Dothan, died Saturday, May 14, 2011 in Tuskegee, Alabama. He was 86.

Memorial services with military honors will be held at 4:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 17, 2011 at Byrd Funeral Home Chapel on West Main Street. The family will receive friends at the funeral home following the services.

In lieu of flowers the family request that donations be made to the Wiregrass Humane Society, PO Box 1045, Dothan, AL 36302.

Paul H. Ryan, Sr., a resident of Dothan, died Saturday, May 14, 2011 in Tuskegee, Alabama. He was 86.

Mr. Ryan was born December 22, 1924 in Norfolk, NY and lived the early years of his life there. He joined the Army at an early age and was a veteran of World War II. He was a POW and the recipient of numerous medals including the Purple Heart. After returning from his military service, he resided in New York for several years where he was employed as a superintendent in the construction business. He later resided in Massachusetts before moving to Dothan several years ago.

He is predeceased by a brother, Francis and two sisters, Mary and Pauline.

Survivors include his wife, Janice D. Ryan of Dothan; 8 children, Paul Ryan, Jr. of NY, June Morse of OH, Thomas Ryan of NY, Cynthia Miranda of NY, Mark Ryan of NY, Karen McCauley of NY, Robert Ryan of NY and Kathy Brown of NY; two step-daughters, Kimberly York of Dothan and Pamela Phillips of TX; 16 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; 3 step-grandchildren, Ryan York, Sara York and Andrew Urdzela, all of Dothan; 3 brothers, Harold, Harry and William and 5 sisters, Shirley, Claudia, Lillian, Nellie and Maude, all of New York.
